My wife and I have been on this paleo kick the last 3 months. Now I don’t want to call it a diet, cause that’s not what it is. This is definitely a change to the way we eat all the time, and probably forever.
I was one of those unlucky people who had crazy bad attacks of gout almost all the time, and it was easier for me to tell you the days that I wasn’t in pain in comparison to the days that I was. I was on 2 different kinds of pills and had a third that I would take when the pain got really bad. This was my life. And yes I was overweight. I was approximately 320 pounds about a year and a half ago.
The first part of my battle was getting the weight down, and at the beginning I was a calorie counter, which helped me drop about 50ish pounds within the first 15 months. But this was not a good way to eat as I really don’t believe in calorie counting as a healthy way to lose weight, but it worked. I was lighter, but unfortunately I was still getting regular attacks.
Come this past August (end of August 2014) my wife and I decided to completely change the way we eat. And we kind of combined the paleo diet and the wheat belly diet. Basically we can’t eat and grains, little fruit, no starchy foods (potatoes , etc ) and dairy (except for cheese).
3 months later I’ve dropped an additional 30 pounds and have not had even one attach since I started. Plus after my last doctors appointment, all my levels are under normal and I have dropped all but one pill which I take every second day.
I’m not preaching, but for me this has worked incredibly.
This post is much longer then I thought it would be. And the hardest part of this is coming up with this lifestyle change is finding things to eat, especially for those of us that like to snack. My wife found a great cracker recipe and I decided to record it. I hope you like.
