Prepping the Bike – Day One

So I have started my 7 day vacation, which is entirely going to be spent at home.  And I will be using this time to work on and get my bike ready for the coming season.

So todays goal was to get everything that mounted to the handlebars and the handlebars themselves replaced with all my new parts.

What did I install today?  Well it all started with the removal of the old handlebars.  I had never done any of what I was attempting to do, so every step was new and it took some time to figure things out.

Anyways removing the handlebars is a much bigger job then I thought it would be, actually the removing wasn’t completely horrible, but the installation of the new ones was a challenge indeed.  Would have been much easier with a second person for sure.  Needless to say I got it done.

After installing the bars I put on the new grips which i purchased from eBay and they worked perfectly.  Very tight.  Which is good.  The throttle side was quite hard to get on, but it went with enough force.

Lastly was the mirrors and the new Boss MC400 speakers.  This was by far the easiest part of the day.  Even though i just mounted the speakers, and ran the cable it is great to know that everything fits on the handlebars.  So all in all a great first day.

Tomorrow I will attempt to actually hook up the speakers and reattach the battery.  Maybe even try and get the bike running.  We shall see.

By the end of the week I should have the oil changed and all my new gear installed including the new luggage rack, rear trunk, and side hard bags.  Looking forward to seeing what the bike looks like when this is all finally done!!

    • Yup. It’s all coming together. Slowly but surely.
