So yesterday was September 7th, and after a lovely breakfast with a bunch of friends, we all headed out to go to the 2014 Canadian guide dogs for the blind run. This is a charity ride that I did last year, and it was a really nice ride, With a good number of bikes, but not too many, and a fantastic route. What was a little different this year, compared to last year, was that last year it was a guided tour. What changed this year was that it was self-guided, so we as a group needed to know how to get to all the checkpoints. Luckily for us a few of the guys that were with our group, had their GPS units on their bikes so they could map out the directions to get to all the checkpoints.
So this is definitely a ride that I enjoy going on, it is not a super long ride but it is definitely a ride that will take the majority of your day, when you count all the time that it takes you to check in for the ride, register, and then finally do the ride. One of the nice things about this event, is that there is a lot of prizes for the riders, or at least chances for prizes. As well as a lot of silent auctions, and things like that. And there’s nothing better than returning from a long ride and being welcomed to a free barbecue with hamburgers, corn, and soft drinks.
We as a group did very well in regards to the door prizes. With many of us winning small little prizes as well as one of us winning the 50-50 draw. But even if none of us had one anything, it was just a great day to be out riding with friends, and a great day to support such a wonderful charity.
I hope you enjoy the video that I posted below, and I hope to see anyone who lives in the Ottawa area out next year for this wonderful ride.
