Every Friday the 13th, that happens on the calendar, the little town of Port Dover welcomes motorcycles from all over.  With an average population of under 7000 people, Port Dover’s population raises to over 100 000 during a Friday the 13th event (now of course this is when it happens during riding season). It is a day of fun for any and all motorcycle enthusiasts.  Also the town shuts down the access to any means of transportation besides motorcycles, or at least thats what I’ve been told.  You can definitely head on over to their website to get all the information that you may need.

So my plan was to go to Port Dover next year, but looking at the calendar made me change my plans.  Friday the 13th happens in June this year, and it’ll be one of the last times that date happens in the summer for 4 years.  Sure it happens in spring and fall but with Canadian winters who really knows what the conditions may be.  And for me Port Dover is about 7 hours away by bike.  Meaning that it could end up being a 2 day drive with some camping in the middle.  The one thing i know is that i wouldn’t want to be doing that drive or camping when it is cold and or snowing!!

SO Port Dover is happening for me this year!  Or at least thats the plan for now.  I have already booked 4 days off and am planning the ride.  Im pretty sure that ill ride through the states as that’ll be roads that I’ve never been on which makes it a bit nicer, plus gas in the US is so much cheaper then it is here.  Last time we were down there gas was about $0.25 cents cheaper per litre.  Thats a pretty big savings!

Im hoping to find a few people to ride with as it would be much more enjoyable a ride and experience heading there with friends.  Also this will give me a great excuse to try out all my new bike stuff, including my new cam, vest, chaps, trunk and hard bags.

This is gonna be a great year!!!

Ill keep you all up to date as PD13 gets closer.

Greg
