Well after using my iPhone as my GPS for years now, I finally decided to actually try a motorcycle GPS unit. And yes they are crazy expensive! At least that’s my thoughts! Which was why I used my iPhone for so long. Don’t get me wrong, I still mount my iPhone to my bike as there are some amazing apps that I use while riding. But for now, my GPS unit will be the Garmin Zumo 390LM.
I picked up this Unit from GPScity.ca as a refurbished unit (which saved me a few bucks). Also, this isn’t the newest version, but one from a couple of years ago. Now you may ask why I went to a true Motorcycle GPS unit. There are a few simple answers.
Firstly I went with this model because of the LM branding, which means Lifetime Maps. Which is awesome as you always want your maps to be current.
Secondly would be that the Zumo series is completely waterproof and comes with all the bike mounts (which is amazing to have everything included in the box – including needed RAM Mounts).
And Thirdly, and really a big one for me over the iPhone was that it was completely useable when I was wearing gloves! I can easily manoeuvre through the system with my gloves on. This was definitely a big plus!
Below I have included 2 videos of both the unboxing and install on my motorcycle. Hope you get some useful information from them!
