Time for some new parts.

So the other day my bike just decided to not start.  Pulled over to get gas and after filling the tank, nothing.  Well not really nothing, you could tell she tried to turn over maybe once and then lost power.  SO it was either a problem with the charging system or the battery.

First thing I did was charge the battery to see if it would keep the charge.  And pretty much over night she lost her charge.  This was kind of pointing to the battery being the issue.  Time for me to head out to get a replacement.  About $150 later I had a new battery.  Actually I picked up a High Performance Battery.  Which was why it was a bit more expensive, but we shall see if it makes a difference.  And as long as I was buying some stuff I bought 4 spark plugs.  How hard could it be to install spark plugs.

Replacing a battery is pretty easy.  Just be careful to not short out anything.  Other than that it’s really just something that you need to do carefully and make sure to get the correct battery so that it fits in your bike well.  My bike literally needed to have 3 bolts removed (2 were for the removal of the seat) to be able to remove the old battery.

After the battery went in a tackled the spark plugs.  What I found was that I didn’t have some of the needed tools.  This included a spark plug wrench (which I picked up for about $6) and a tool to measure the gap in the spark plug (which was about $2).  So after I had all the tools the actual replacement took about 15-20 minutes.  Nice and easy.

Next time I do it ill film it.  Didn’t realize how easy it would be.  Again this is on my bike (2003 Vulcan Nomad) where the spark plugs are very easy to access.

Anyways after all this I just hoped that the bike started…
