New starter for My Hyosung GV250 on the way

For any of you that watch my Youtube channel or are friends with me on Facebook, you may have noticed that over the past week I had problems getting my bike to start again.  And I couldn’t blame it on the weather as the bike wasn’t turning over at all.  So I put a video up on Youtube to see if anyone had run into this issue.  But no response.

So then I put up a post on Facebook and in some of the Motorcycle Groups that Im part of explaining what was happening and of course a link to the above video.  This time round I got a lot of responses.  Most of the responses pointed to the actual battery.  I wasn’t to sure that this was the problem, but I ended taking the battery to get tested.  It was pushing the correct amount of volts, but the Cold Charging Amps were low, and this is definitely something that could cause a bike to not start.  So I replaced it.  But after installing the new battery nothing changed.  All I was getting was a clicking sound.

The next thing that many people figured I should check was the actual solenoid.  This was a little difficult to access, so I never really got a round to checking it.  But I did check all the physical cable connections as this could also be a problem.  But everything seemed nice and snug.

Lastly was testing the starter.  Now the starter was easy to access as its right at the bottom of the engine and attached by only two screws.  But I really had no idea how to test it as I am by no means mechanical.  So a friend of mine (who is a mechanic) swung by to help me out.  So within minutes he had the starter off and was testing it.  Nothing was happening.  It should be turning over, But Nope.  So he took it apart. What we saw was a starter completely full of oil!

There is a seal between the starter and the motor that is supposed to keep the oil out of the starter, but for some reason it had failed its job.  Oil was everywhere.

Needless to say I had to order a new one as this one is done.  At least it was found out now then when I was out on a long ride! So I ordered one from Hyosungsource.com and hope to have it here within the next week or so.  Once it is installed I will post another video to show you if that solved my problem.  It better!!!

Anyways, it snowed again last night.  Unbelievable!!!!  But it is supposed to be in the pluses from this point forward.  So hopefully by the time this starter gets here it will be time to take the bike out for a ride.

Season is fast approaching!!
